Worship Leader Jobs – What Does It Take To Get a Job Leading Music At Church by Kevin Marshall
Worship leader jobs are some of the most in-demand positions at churches today. Leading worship is a ministry that many people wish they could do well, but many people are not musically inclined. You cannot just place anyone in charge of your worship ministry on Sunday morning. The Lord has gifted specific people with musical talents that they can use to glorify the Lord. If you don’t have any musical ability, then God is probably not calling you to lead worship!
If you are looking for worship leader jobs, there are several skills, talents, and experiences that many churches are looking for.
Experience
If you have never led worship at a church, then you are not going to get very far in leading worship. Worship ministers have often already played at many other churches for years before they look for worship leader jobs.
If you have musical talent and want to use it in leading worship, you should start by playing with the worship team at your local church. Volunteer to lead worship at other services throughout the week. Volunteer to help out with the worship team in the youth group.
Instrumental skills
It helps you tremendously if you can play an instrument too. Learn how to play the guitar or the piano. These two instruments are the instruments most worship pastors use. Some worship leaders don’t play anything on Sunday morning, but you will have an advantage in getting a job if you can play an instrument too.
Experience in Sound Equipment
You should have some experience in working with the sound equipment too. Worship ministers need to be familiar with how the speakers, monitors, and the sound board works. A worship pastor that can run the sound board and play an instrument is very valuable in many churches.
Vocal skills
If you can’t sing, you can forget about leading worship! Many people think they can sing, and there are many great singers, but you need to have some vocal skills in order to be the worship minister. If you have great rhythm, but you don’t have a great voice, you can still play an instrument on the worship team. Worship leader jobs always require that you can hold a tune.
Connections
The same principles that are true in the business world hold true in the Christian world too. A lot of life is about who you know and not about what you know. Start making connections with people via social media and other websites. Meet Christians at churches all over the country through the internet.
We are not called to be lone ranger Christians. We need to make as many connections as we can if we want to lead worship at a church.
You need to have a passion for worship. When you are applying for worship leader jobs, interviewers are going to pay attention to your passion for worship and for living for the Lord. If you have a passion for Christ and serving other people, this will be reflected in your interviews for worship leader jobs.
